THE MORE THE MERRIER. . .WHY MULTIPLE DRIVERS?

THE MORE THE MERRIER. . .WHY MULTIPLE DRIVERS?

We all know that the better the sound of your headphones, the more you love the music. Detail, frequency range, bass depth and speed all contribute to make the sound more involving and exciting. But how do we achieve this in our headphones?

  • The key is to making our audiophile designs with multiple drivers. Our top end in-ear and over-ear models each have two, three (or in the E1010 Quad Driver's case, four!) drivers in each side. Why is this and what are the advantages?
  • Multiple drivers create what is described as 'headroom' to the sound. For an example, simply tale a look at a pair of hi-fi speakers. It's only in very rare, esoteric cases that you have one drive unit, as you normally need at least one woofer and a tweeter to cover more of the frequency range (from low bass notes to high treble). Often you will have two woofers (one configured to cover lower bass notes and the other for the upper bass and midrange), or even three. Each driver 'specialises' in its designated frequency range.
  • Well, It's the same with headphones! Imagine your in-ear or over-ear headphone is a tiny loudspeaker, the more drive units you have in, the wider the frequency range, each section of the sound is more specified and you will experience high quality bass, smooth and clear midrange and treble detail.
  • Although it's a case of the more the better, it's all about the quality as well. There's no point in having four drivers (or more!) if they are not technically advanced and well designed enough to be able to transfer detail - and consequently communicate the emotion in music. For example a high-quality dual driver design with top quality drivers will be better than a poorly designed triple driver with mediocre drivers! 1MORE's high-end designs include advanced material drive units that offer deep, pulsating bass and high frequency responses up to 40 kHz, above that of human hearing capability (which is around 20kHz) - for high-resolution audio.

Consequently - for 1More UK Headphones and our customers - it really is a case of quality AND quantity!
